Parenting Work Skills Short Course
Introduction to Course
For generations the Motherhood Penalty - biases and misperceptions about time out of the workforce for parenting - has held mothers and fathers back.
Now the world-first Parenting Work Skills Short Course recognises the parenting skills gained from caregiving are linked with in-demand future of work skills.

From crisis management, to empathy and complex decision making, mothers and parents bring unique value to workplaces when returning from parental leave.
You will be equipped with an understanding of how to identify and evaluate key skills that are essential for the future of work, and importantly, how to showcase these skills to future employers.
Course outline
Module One: Future of Work Skills
The first module will take you through the key future of work skills you’ll need to thrive when re-entering the workforce.
Module Two: Applied Transferable Skills
This second module will take you through how parenting skills are not only transferable but critical to your success in the workforce.
Intended learning outcomes
After completing this workshop, you should be able to:
- Identify and evaluate key future of work skills
- Critically link your caregiving experiences to in-demand skills
- Apply this knowledge to build employment profiles to present to employers
The short course challenges the common view from society and employers that returning parents can be less committed, less flexible and less ambitious than their colleagues. And in doing so, arrest the cycle of self-doubt felt by many returning parents.
