EMA Internship Subject

Discover the EMA Internship subject at UniMelb. This page provides key information on timelines, eligibility, and how to organise your internship.

Complete an internship as part of your studies

Internship (MGMT90131) is available for students that are currently completing The Executive Master of Arts. This page contains the information you need about enrolling and finding an eligible internship.

About the Subject

This subject requires students to complete a 20-day internship with an organisation, where you'll contribute to meaningful tasks and complete a project developed in collaboration with your host and the Subject Coordinator. The internship lets you apply and build on your EMA coursework in a real-world setting, while gaining valuable skills in project management, communication and professional practice. You'll be supported throughout the experience and have the opportunity to grow your professional network.

Attend an Information Session

Please check this page for updates on the next information session.

During the session, you will learn about the subjects in more detail and review the application and approval process. There will also be a time for questions at the end.

We encourage students to attend and by registering you will receive a copy of the recording. Interested students can contact ema-internships@unimelb.edu.au if they would like a copy of a previous information session.

Internship Process

Students need to complete all steps in the process to ensure that they are enrolled and their internship is approved.

  1. Apply

Apply for the subject before the deadline.

  2. Enrol

Once you receive your  approval email you can complete the enrolment modules on canvas.  After 7-10 days, you will be automatically enrolled in the subject.

  3. Submit

When you have secured an internship you need to submit the details of your internship by completing a 'Risk  Assessment Form'. This form and instructions will be provided to students after they are enrolled.

  4. Sign

Once your internship has been approved by the subject coordinator  you will receive a copy of the internship agreement to complete. This needs to be completed and signed before you start your internship.

Finding an Internship

Students are responsible for securing their own 20-day internship. All internships need to be confirmed by the start of the semester, or you will be asked to withdraw and enrol in a different subject. This requirement is to ensure that there is no delay in your course progression.

Once enrolled, you can submit the details of your internship to be approved by the subject coordinator and complete an internship agreement. Consider the following when selecting an internship:

  • Must be a new opportunity (not your current role).
  • Internship must start and end within approved dates.
  • Must have clearly defined roles and a supervisor.
  • Have a clearly defined project that you can work on throughout the internship.
  • Internships can be completed within Australia or internationally.

Please be aware that due to the complexity of assessing the appropriateness of an internship we cannot list all criteria that may apply to obtain approval.
