About the internship subjects
Students enrolled in a master's degree within the School of Culture and Communication are able to enrol in an internship subject either as a capstone or elective (depending on the course). This page is relevant for students that are planning to enrol in one the following subjects:
- Internship II (Semester Long) (MULT90019)
- Arts Management Placement (ARTS90024)
- Art Curatorship Core and Placement (ACUR90012)
These subjects offer the opportunity to gain first-hand industry experience whilst being supported by the subject coordinator.
Finding an Internship
Students are responsible for securing their own internship and need to complete at least 150 hours of placement. The Experiential Learning Team can offer support and guidance in this process. After applying for the subject, you will have access to opportunities that you may wish to apply for.
Once enrolled, you can submit the details of your internship to be approved by the subject coordinator and complete an internship agreement. Consider the following when selecting an internship:
- Must be a new opportunity (not your current role)
- Internship must start within approved dates
- Must have clearly defined roles and a qualified supervisor
- Must satisfy (and not exceed) the 150 hour placement requirement
Please be aware that due to the complexity of assessing the appropriateness of an internship we cannot list all criteria that may apply to obtain approval.
Internship Subject Process
-
Apply
Apply for the subject before the deadline. You cannot self-enrol in this subject and we advise that you add the subject as 'planned' on your study plan to ensure you have space. For eligiblity requirements please refer to the subject handbook of the subject you plan to enrol in.
-
Enrol
Once you receive your approval email you can complete the enrolment modules on canvas. After 7-10 days, you will be automatically enrolled in the subject of your choice.
-
Submit
When you have secured an internship you need to submit the details of your internship by completing a 'Risk Assessment Form'. This form is located on the LMS community, which you will have access to after you apply for the subject.
-
Sign
Once your internship has been approved by the subject coordinator you will receive a copy of the internship agreement to complete. This needs to be completed and signed before you start your internship.
Attend an Information Session
Registrations will soon open to attend an information session presented by the subject coordinators and the Experiential Learning Team.
During the session, you will learn about the subjects in more detail and review the application and approval process. There will also be a time for questions at the end.
We encourage students to attend and by registering you will receive a copy of the recording. You can also watch a recording from a session held in the past.
