The Social Impact Project

The Social Impact Project is an initiative of The Big Issue that offers students a hands-on social enterprise experience, guiding them to develop a project that creates positive social or environmental change.

Overview

The Social Impact Project is an immersive learning experience for students at participating universities. Students work in teams to design a project or social enterprise that creates positive social or environmental change.

The program is run by The Big Issue, one of Australia’s longest-standing social enterprises. Their mission is to develop solutions that help people experiencing homelessness, marginalisation, and disadvantage positively change their lives.

Applications and Dates

Arts students can apply individually or in teams (up to 8 people).  If you apply with fewer than 8 people, you will be grouped with other students to form a team of up to 8.

The project runs throughout the semester, starting in Week 2 and concluding with a final presentation in Week 9.
There are two intakes each year—one per semester.

Students can register their interest for Semester 2 2026 now to attend an information session in July. Further details will be communicated to students by email during orientation week.
