Amanda Bertana, Assistant Professor of Sociology at Southern Connecticut State University, will be visiting from 22 June to 15 July 2023. Her primary area of research investigates the human dimensions of global environmental change and its effects (flooding, coastal erosion, more frequent and intense storm surges) on local communities. Amanda will continue with historical archival research in the South Pacific to examine how Indigenous communities adapt to climate change as it compounds with political and economic restructurings wrought on by globalization. Amanda’s work explores Fiji’s environmental vulnerabilities in relation to a colonial history that has created contemporary social, political, and economic vulnerabilities.
