New Normal photojournalism

In 2021, the reality for most of us was tightly constrained. But inside our homes, our curfews, our travel limits, are countless intimate stories of this seismic human moment. New Normal is a virtual exhibition capturing those stories. Held in conjunction with Magnet Galleries, Melbourne, it showcases the captivating work of budding photojournalists studying at the University of Melbourne's Centre for Advancing Journalism , where they pursue their Master of Journalism, Master of International Journalism and Master of International Relations degrees.

These photographers have documented the pandemic from deep inside it, living and witnessing waves of devastation and renewal in bubbles across Australia, India and China. Their images capture how life prevails, in new and unexpected ways, within our 'new normal'.

Hear more about the students and stories behind the New Normal exhibition with photojournalism subject coordiantor, Melanie Dove, and practicing photojournalist, Luis Ascui.
