Media, Space and Networked Publics: A PhD and Early-Career Researcher Symposium

Hosted by: Center for Information and Communication Studies, Fudan University and Asian Cultural Research Hub, University of Melbourne

This research symposium will bring together PhD students and early-career researchers from Fudan and Melbourne Universities to intensively workshop works-in-progress based on peer review and discussion with more senior mentors.

Discussion will focus on the following broad themes and questions with reference to examples in, across, and beyond Asian contexts:

• How is digital communication enabling new forms of networked publics, collectives, multitudes and communities today?
• How are the evolving affordances of digital platforms shaping urban spaces and city cultures, and vice versa?
• What novel forms of subjectivity and identity are emerging from current (re)configurations of digital networks?
• How are intelligent communication systems re-shaping city public spaces?
• Digital infrastructure and the changed temporality of city spaces
• Other issues related to the intersection between media, space and publics
