NTRO and Asia Symposium 2026

On Friday, 11 September 2026, the Asian Cultural Research Hub (ACRH) will host the NTRO and Asia Symposium 2026, a roundtable bringing together 14 researchers, artists and practitioners from across the University of Melbourne to share non-traditional research outputs (NTROs) engaging with Asia.

Held in Room 124, Level 1 of the Alan Gilbert Building, Parkville Campus, the symposium spans practice-led work from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music (Film & Television, Design and Production, Dance, Music), the Faculty of Arts (Asia Institute, School of Culture and Communication, Melbourne Asia Review), and the Faculty of Education.

Rather than a series of formal papers, the afternoon takes the shape of an informal roundtable: each participant shares roughly ten minutes of their work, followed by five minutes of discussion. The aim isn't polished presentation so much as connection - a chance for researchers working on Asia in very different mediums and disciplines to meet one another and map the breadth of NTRO work happening across the University.

The symposium reflects ACRH's ongoing commitment to fostering interdisciplinary, creative-practice research on Asia at the University of Melbourne.
