November 2023: 'Climate Theatre' symposium in New York
The project was proud to host an international symposium in November 2023 in New York, titled Climate Theatre: Understanding the Relation between Ecology and Performance in a Climate Emergency.
The event was held over two days at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (where our Partner Investigator, Professor Peter Eckersall is based). Attendees were treated to a wide variety of stimulating and exciting new research from PhD students, early career researchers and senior academics.
Two keynote addresses were delivered, one from Professor Una Chaudhuri (NYU) titled "Campus AnthropoScenes: Proposing Ecospheric Knowledge Production", and another from Professor Emerita Bonnie Marranca (PAJ: A Journal of Performance and Art) titled "Thinking About Ecology", which was presented as a conversation with our Partner Investigator Jen Parker-Starbuck about Bonnie's several decades of research and thinking about ecology in the performing arts.
Presenters traveled to New York from across North America, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Australia.
The project wishes to thank all at The Graduate Center for the welcoming environment, and all presenters and attendees for their contributions to the symposium. We're still buzzing!
