Orientation and induction
All newly admitted graduate research students will receive an email with information about registering for the Arts Graduate Research Welcome and Reception in mid-January.
To help new students make the transition to graduate researcher life at Melbourne, a half-day orientation event is held each February, and will take place on Thursday of Orientation Week. The program is designed to introduce students to the Faculty, Schools, student support services and each other.

Graduate Research Welcome, Reception, and School Inductions Orientation event details:
Date: 22 February, 2024
Time: 12:00pm - 3:30pm
Location: This event begins at the Public Lecture Theatre (room 122), Old Arts, Parkville campus
Register via the Melbourne Orientation website.
This event will introduce you to key services that support graduate researchers at Melbourne and provide Faculty-specific information regarding your candidature management. Attendance is mandatory for all commencing students.
11:00am - 11:30am | (Optional) Library Tour: Join us for a quick Library Tour prior to your Graduate Research Welcome and Reception event! Spots are limited, so please register here! |
12:00pm -1:00pm | Welcome Session: An introductory to key support services and essential candidature information and resources |
1:00pm - 2:00pm | Networking Reception Lunch: Connect with fellow graduate researchers |
2:30pm – 3:30pm | School Induction: Meet academic staff supporting graduate researchers within your school and have a chance to ask questions |
